Doesn’t Relate to Art Whatsoever!

This clip is about sharks, and how they display a behavior called tonic immobility, which renders them motionless for a period of minutes, perhaps in an attempt to avoid conflict or predation.

You will never see me swimming with sharks.  But.  That doesn’t mean I don’t feel sympathy for them.  Every year over 100,000,000 sharks are definned for “Shark Fin Soup” (a delicacy in Japan, $100 ( £65) a bowl, the fins themselves are completely flavorless, the rubbery texture is the appeal, with a broth that is typically flavored with garlic, chicken, onions, etc), and thrown back into the ocean to drown to death.  Yes, 100 million sharks.

If you aren’t already aware of the issue, watch Sharkwater.  The main guy in the documentary is rather annoyingly douchebaggy, but, the issue is worthwhile in learning and understanding.

And the award winning The Cove is a must see as well.  Depressing topics, but that doesn’t mean we should ignore them!  Sharks, whales, the entire ocean is basically on the brink of extinction because of our greed and hungry bellies.  Do our cows and chickens really need to eat fish?  Umm, I don’t think so.

I love marine life and science, if I were good at science, I would be a marine biologist, but instead, I chose photography (for now).  Anyway.

That’s my rant for the day.  Thanks!
